Did you know drowning kills more young people aged under 15 years worldwide than tuberculosis and measles? In Vietnam, drowning is a leading cause of death in children especially in poor, flood prone rural communities which are close to rivers, creeks and the sea.
For struggling families in these areas, swimming lessons are unaffordable and difficult to access because of the lack of facilities to learn how to swim safely. Most swimming pools in Vietnam are located in hotels and resorts.
Our Water Safety Training program teaches students how to survive in the water and basic swimming skills. As part of the program, we've constructed a school swimming pool that benefits not only that school but the whole district. Since September last year, more than 400 students from 8 schools have undertaken the 18 lesson water safety course.
